EGR Cooler Repair

Since the EGR cooler connects the exhaust and cooling systems of your engine, failures inside the cooler may lead to coolant loss, overheating, and engine damage, among other issues.

Radiator Repair

Your engine produces a lot of heat and it's your radiator's job to remove the heat so the engine can work properly. If you experience issues - whether it be a leak, a hole, or anything in between - get it fixed properly by our certified team's professional standards.

Fuel Tank Repair

A clean fuel storage tank means cleaner fuel and better fuel efficiency. At Holmes Welding & Radiator, we repair all types of fuel tanks. Our team of experts will clean, repair, or rebuild your steel, aluminum, or plastic fuel tanks, saving you the expensive cost of replacement.

Custom Fabrication & Welding

Our facility is home to state-of-the-art technology and a team of highly experienced professionals in the metal and stainless-steel industries.

Whether your welding needs include repairs, maintenance of equipment, or custom parts, we deliver quality work on time and on budget.

FAQ

Complete failure of your EGR’s cooling system could cause major damage to your engine.

The most common sign of failure is white exhuast smoke. This “smoke” is actually steam from boiling water or coolant and can be caused by a head gasket failure, cracked EGR cooler, or condensation inside the exhaust system.

Another easy sign is a lack of coolant in your overflow bottle. If you have to keep refilling your coolant and you don’t notice any stains on the ground, that coolant may be exiting through the exhaust via a leaking EGR cooler.

While EGR cooler failure is inevitable, replacing a cooler can get expensive. Clearing our soot and debris from your EGR cooler can restore an even flow, reducing internal pressure and improving performance.

  • Remove the cooler from the vehicle
  • Fill the cooler with detergent
  • Let the cooler soak in the detergent to dissolve deposits
  • Thoroughly rinse the cooler to remove loos deposits
  • Let the cooler dry, then reinstall it

Ultrasonic cleaners are available at some repair shops. Ultrasonic waves vibrate the carbon loss while circulating detergent through the passages, resulting in a speedier cleaning process.

An important component that keeps your vehicle performing strongly is the radiator. Inspections of your automobile are encouraged after surviving the hot temperatures of summer, before winter’s overnight freezes occur.

Here are the three main issues that will indicate how you know when your radiator is bad:

  1. Leaking Antifreeze
  2. Hot Engine / Overheating Engine
  3. Sludge Deposits
  4. Corrosion / Oxidation
  5. Defective Thermostat
  6. Defective A/C

Every repair job is different, with many hidden variables. Holmes Welding & Radiator repair has been a leader in the industry for over 100 years now. We’re welding and fabrication experts, servicing the greater Triangle, North Carolina region.

We work quickly and effectively to get the job done, but never sacrifice quality.

Welding, by definition, is the process of joining two metals together by heating the metal surfaces up to their melting points. At Holmes Welding & Radiator, we believe that the best welding method depends on the specific job at hand.

When permanence is paramount, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) is often the preferred technique, but other projects may be better suited with a Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or standard arc weld.

We can perform welding service at our facility or in the field at your job site.

While our welding skills are next to none in the Raleigh area, this doesn’t mean we can weld everything. Certain combinations, like welding aluminum and steel together, are structurally impossible. But, we are able to offer other joinery methods.

We perform welding and fabrication services in-house, including aluminum welding for fuel tanks and other equipment.

Our team has experience in all types of fuel tank repair & refurbishing, tank fabrication, gas tank repair, dent removal, and services for commercial trucks, lift trucks, buses, and heavy-duty vehicles of all makes and models.
